When you begin your career search, it’s exciting to interview with several different companies. You may then find yourself with several job offers on the table and will have to turn at least one of them down. It’s not always easy, but you can do so gracefully by following the following steps:

1. Show your appreciation with a sincere telephone call or email, thanking the Hiring Manager for taking the time to interview and consider you for the position. A text message is not recommended.
2. Provide a brief, but honest reason for not accepting the position.
3. Stay in touch and provide small pleasantries by connecting on LinkedIn or wishing them well on something you discussed during the interview process.
