Position Summary for the Town Planner II:
– The Planner II plays a key role in administering the Town’s zoning and permitting operations, helping ensure that new development supports our community’s vision and quality of life. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, collaborate with departments and residents, and make a meaningful impact on how the town grows and thrives.
– Manage and oversee the Town’s zoning and permitting processes with professionalism, accuracy, and attention to detail.
– Review residential and commercial development applications for zoning compliance and coordinate with other departments to ensure efficient review and permitting.
– Develop and maintain fee schedules for residential and commercial projects, including zoning, building, utility, and impact fees.
– Prepare and present clear, well-organized staff reports for Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) meetings.
– Participate in public meetings, providing professional recommendations and representing the Town’s planning interests.
– Issue zoning confirmation letters and provide exceptional customer service to residents, business owners, and developers.
Qualifications Summary for the Town Planner II:
– Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
– Prior experience in municipal or government planning is required, including familiarity with development review, zoning administration, and land use planning processes.
– Thorough knowledge of zoning code enforcement principles, land use laws, rules, and ordinances.
– Understanding of town and departmental policies, procedures, and operations.
– Proficiency with planning and mapping software, GIS applications, and other job-related computer programs.
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
– Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills for effectively interacting with the public, developers, staff, and elected officials.
– Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and public presentations.
– Ability to interpret and apply planning and zoning regulations with sound judgment and attention to detail.
