Position Title: Human Resources Manager
Industry: Law Firm / Legal Services
Location: Alexandria, VA
Reports To: Legal Office Administrator
Status: Full time, Direct hire, Exempt
Standard Hours: 8:30am-5:00pm, Monday – Friday (37.50 hours weekly)
Senior HR Generalist Position Summary:
- Oversee all firm recruitment for professional and support staff roles
- Review, edit and proofread position descriptions
- Conduct background investigations on selected applicants, extend offers and send out offer letters
- Onboard new employees to include conducting orientation, enrolling new employees into firm healthcare plans, and completing onboarding paperwork
- Maintain personnel files ensuring all necessary documents are completed properly
- Counsel managers on disciplinary actions and participate in disciplinary actions as necessary
- Responsible for all facets of employee relations support
- Process employee terminations and ensure complete offboarding to include terminating employees in firm healthcare plans and ensuring COBRA paperwork is completed
- Manage the annual performance reviews process
- Prepare professional staff reviews for attorneys
- Make salary recommendations for staff to the Executive Committee
- Prepare staff holiday bonuses and oversee the delivery to employees
- Work with Executive Committee, Administrator, and Controller on benefits negotiations and implementation of healthcare policies
- Remain up-to-date on federal and state laws regarding Disability and FMLA
- Implement and track all disability claims
- Ensure firm policies and procedures are being followed by employees
Qualifications Summary:
- Minimum four years Human Resource Generalist experience
- Law firm experience required
- Bachelor’s Degree desired, willing to substitute years of experience for degree
- PHR certification preferred
- Experience with recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration and employee relations
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- High level of confidentiality
- Confident, poised and professional demeanor
- Ability to easily interact with employees, candidates, attorneys, vendors and the executive committee
